Shattering the Bounds
Glass has regained popularity in the art world, and this week Ms. Pezza introduced glass fusing to her 2D Design II students. Students are currently learning about the science of melting glass as they design a 3rd quarter piece. These images show full fused glass pieces made by students working with sheet glass, frit, and 1-2 mm stringers. The test pieces took nine hours to melt in a small glass kiln!
It is important for art students to explore traditional and contemporary art materials and techniques when they reach the US. As this was so well received by the students, it will be added to the US art curriculum starting in fall 2020.
